  • Feats of balance and precision, Osuitok’s caribou express a graceful elegance and the sensitivity of their subject in a way that few other artists have been able to approach.

In 1993 Osuitok visited Vancouver for a solo exhibition at the Inuit Gallery of Vancouver, and while there, witnessed firsthand bronze casting process at a local foundry. Impressed with the medium’s inherent strength and capacity for rendering delicate features, a collaboration was embarked upon that would see Osuitok’s iconic caribou translated in the medium of bronze in an edition of twelve. The present sculpture is the first of the twelve cast.
